The Austin American-Statesman published an op-ed by Texans for Reasonable Solutions Chair Nicole Nosek and former ERCOT Board member Glen Lyons explaining the Bring Your Own Power proposal.

As Texas prepares for enormous growth in electricity demand from AI and data centers, one question deserves more attention: Should Texas families pay higher electric bills so billion-dollar technology companies can expand?

Our answer is no.

Instead, we propose a simple solution: Bring Your Own Power. Large electricity users such as data centers should build or contract for their own new power generation instead of relying on existing customers to bear the costs of expanding the grid.

This approach would help protect Texas families and businesses from higher electricity bills while allowing Texas to continue attracting investment and innovation. It encourages private investment, private risk, and private responsibility instead of shifting costs onto residential ratepayers.

Texas has an opportunity to support both economic growth and affordable, reliable electricity. Bring Your Own Power offers a practical, market-oriented approach that can accomplish both goals.
